Payroll Email Lists and Newsletters
Email List ServersPlease keep in mind that these types of lists will
soon drown you in email. That said, they can be tremendous ways of keeping
up with what's going on, testing your knowledge, asking questions, etc.
But beware of relying on them for answers to tax or legal questions. There
are always people who'll leap in and answer questions who really don't have a
clue as to what they're talking about. Always ask for a reference or
link. Even if they quote text from a publication, ask for the publication
name or link itself. I've seen some of these people misquote stuff. Always
have at least two and preferably three sources of information. Payroll-taxes.com
This is a terrific email list to subscribe to. There's a fair
amount of traffic, with lots of good advice and some very illuminating
questions and answers. American Payroll
Association
This is a similar list to the one listed above, except that the digest
method requires you to do a lot of extra re-reading. However, the list is moderated, which
is a plus although moderation doesn't have anything to do with the accuracy of
the answers. There are also includes job listings. The best
benefit of this list is that whenever there is a big
change, such as a major tax cut, or a new Circular E, the APA
announces it on this list. Even if you don't read the routine messages,
it's still worthwhile belonging to this list.
