Payroll Resources
We've developed a few items that may be of use to payroll folks
and our seminar
participants.
Everyone wants a mission statement these days.
And I don't think that's a bad thing. But mission statements need to
be clear, concise, and straightforward.
These are not statutes, regulations, or court decisions, but they
reflect some basic truths of payroll. Some of them are
legitimate...some are ironic...and some are whimsical.
These are payroll "red flags." These kinds of things
are signals to various regulatory agencies that you're probably doing
something wrong.
If you're going to have a fully professional, knowledgeable and
competent payroll staff, here are some investments that you should make.
In our seminars, we usually review the calculation of "regular
rate of pay." We've put together a small spreadsheet to
demonstrate this. Please feel free to download it, although we
make no guarantees. If you
have any suggestions, please let us
know.
In our seminars, we also
refer to a 52 week regular rate of pay worksheet. Again, no
guarantees.
In our seminars, we refer to a memo to give to employees who complete
a W-4 that claims excessive allowances or exempt status.
See if you have to report them in YOUR state.
